Welcome to the School of Distance Education (SDE) of the Bharathiar University,
Coimbatore
The School of Distance Education (SDE) of Bharathiar University was established
during the academic year 1991-92. The school has limited its operation for the obvious
reason of strengthening its base to provide quality education. Having realized the
objective, the school has started extending its action by identifying and approving
study centres throughout the country to help achieve higher gross enrolment ratio
and higher literacy rate.

Admission Process
Applications are issued and filled in applications are received round the year.
The downloaded softcopy of applications are also accepted. The enrolment is made
a continuous ongoing process throughout the year.
- Academic year batch : Filled applications received / spot admission done from 1st
May to 30th November.
- Calendar year batch : Filled in applications received / spot admission done from
1st Dec to 30th April.
Legal Jurisdiction
All disputes, that may arise in or from the affairs and administration of the SDE
shall lie within the legal jurisdiction of the city of Coimbatore only. The School
of Distance Education is an integral part of the University. Hence, the School shall
come within the purview of the statute 3 of chapter III of the Statutes of Bharathiar
University, January 1986, which states. "In all suits and other legal proceedings
by or against the University, the pleadings shall be signed and verified by the
Registrar and all such suits and proceedings shall by issued to and served on the
Registrar".
Therefore, in all suits and other legal proceedings against that School of Distance
Education, all processes in such suits and proceedings shall be issued to and served
on the Registrar of Bharathiar University only.
